We adopt a system at Hugo & Holly Day Nursery whereby each child chooses a 'key person', a member of staff that they would naturally prefer to go to if they need anything.  Each member of staff keeps a daily diary of each child in their care and writes regular updates for parents.  This not only records activities but also the child's moods, developments and feelings.  Although the children are given a key worker when they start nursery the system is flexible and allows for natural relationships to form.
